As of April 1st, 2025, new driving regulations for foreign visitors in Sri Lanka are now in effect. To legally drive in Sri Lanka, you must meet the following requirements:
- A valid International Driving Permit (IDP) is now mandatory. Along with the IDP, you must also obtain a Temporary Sri Lankan Driving Permit, which is issued by AA Ceylon.
- With an International Driving Permit (IDP), obtaining your Sri Lankan Temporary Driving Permit is easy and can be arranged before you arrive. At Quick Ceylon Rentals, we offer this service, saving you time and hassle at the airport.
If you only have a domestic driving license and not an International Driving Permit (IDP), we highly recommend obtaining your IDP from your home country before traveling.
